Effective targeting is crucial for the success of your advertising campaigns. By showing your ads to the right audience, you can maximize your return on investment and achieve your campaign goals.

Aryel offers a powerful suite of targeting options to help you reach your desired users with precision, this guide will walk you through the different targeting methods available on our platform.

1. Geotargeting

Geotargeting allows you to deliver your ads to users based on their physical location. This is perfect for local businesses or campaigns focused on specific regions. You can define your geographic targets using the following criteria:

  • Country: Target users across one or more entire countries.

  • City: Narrow your focus to specific cities.

  • ZIP Code: Achieve hyper-local targeting by specifying postal codes.

2. Demographic Targeting

Demographic Targeting helps you connect with audiences based on their specific traits. This ensures your message resonates with the most relevant population groups.

The available demographic options are:

  • Age Range: Select from predefined age brackets to reach the right generation.

    • 18-24

    • 25-34

    • 35-44

    • 45-54

    • 55-64

    • 65+

  • Gender: Choose to target Men or Women.

  • Language: Refine your reach by language preference.

    • Browser Language: Target users based on the language setting of their web browser.

    • Content Language: Display your ad within articles and on web pages written in a specific language.

3. Audience Segments

Audience Segments are powerful, pre-packaged audiences that allow you to show your ad to the right people in the right context, without the guesswork. These segments are intelligently built using a combination of behavioral and contextual data.

Each Audience Segment is constructed upon three key dimensions:

  • User-Based: This dimension focuses on individual user identifiers. It groups users who have shown interest in or are "in-market" for a specific topic based on their past online behavior, such as sites visited, content engaged with, and previous ad interactions.

  • Article-Based (Contextual): Using advanced content categorization algorithms, this dimension places your ad directly within articles and pages whose content is highly relevant to your chosen segment, regardless of the website's primary category.

  • Publisher-Based: This dimension targets entire publisher domains that are classified under relevant IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) categories. For example, you can target all websites that are categorized as "Automotive" or "Sports."

How It Works: An Example

Let's say you select the "Car Enthusiasts" Audience Segment. Aryel will activate all three dimensions to ensure maximum relevance and reach:

  • User-Based: Your ad will be shown to users who have previously been identified as car enthusiasts. For instance, users who previously engaged with car ads, or read articles about cars, etc...

  • Article-Based: Your ad will appear in any article discussing automotive-related topics (e.g., a car review on a news site or a blog post about engine maintenance).

  • Publisher-Based: Your ad will be placed on any publisher website that falls under an automotive-related IAB category.

Automatic Optimization

The platform automatically balances the delivery across the User-Based, Article-Based, and Publisher-Based dimensions (or just User- and Article-Based when a Sitelist is used) to efficiently achieve the campaign goals you defined during setup.

Using Audience Segments with a Sitelist

What happens if you use an Audience Segment and also provide a Sitelist (a specific list of websites where you want your ads to run)?

In this scenario, the Sitelist acts as the primary filter. The Audience Segment's logic is then applied only within the domains specified in your Sitelist.

Example:

  • You select the "Car Enthusiasts" Audience Segment.

  • You also upload a Sitelist containing newssite.com and sportmagazine.com.

Your ad will only be delivered on newssite.com and sportmagazine.com. Within these two sites, Aryel will show the ad when:

  1. A user previously identified as a "Car Enthusiast" visits any page (User-Based targeting).

  2. Any user visits a page with automotive-related content (Article-Based targeting).

The Publisher-Based dimension is superseded by the more specific Sitelist you provided. This combination allows for highly precise and controlled ad placements.
